Foundations of Literacy

This course will introduce the notion of literacy in the early years, and discuss the foundations of children literary development. It will show how literacy fits into different aspects of child-development and will explore the early stages of reading and writing (mark marking) and cover key concepts such as 'print carries meaning'. The course will cover talking and forming words, phonological/phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and early comprehension. The course will provide guidance on the adults role in developing early literacy and discuss how to structure a language rich environment
